Introduction

The establishment of Purbanchal University in 1993 was visualized as an extraordinary endeavor by the Government of Nepal to create an academic centre of excellence in the Eastern Development Region of Nepal. Its prime role was outlined to act as a catalytic agent for the promotion of socio-economic transformation in Nepal through quality education appropriate for quality life and sustainable future. Since its establishment, the university is motivated by its fundamental objective of preserving, refining, inventing, adopting, extending and transmitting knowledge in an environment that fosters free enquiry and open scholarly debate, leading to all-encompassing development of the rural people and their economies and environment.

Sprawled over 545 hectors, incorporated by degenerated forest land at "Goth Gaon",located approximately about 6 km east of ltarahi and 2km north of east west high way in Morang district lies the upcoming University. It is bounded by Gachiya river in the west and foothill forest on the north and east. Sundarpur, Mrigauliya and Indrapur are the three village development committees bordering the south. Lying in the bounty Terai bounded partly by lustrous foothills makes its climate adorable.

Major Activites

Purbanchal University has three Constituent Campuses and more than 100 affiliated Campuses running programs under six Faculties.There are more than 8,000 students enrolled under various faculties of Purbanchal University.

Under the physical development plan, PU has endeavoured into building its infrastructure and physical facilities with limited resources. For this first phase of development, with an estimate of Rs. 240 million. With its own resources, PU has erected the structures of academic building, administrative building, student’s hostel building, and the library building. PU is seeking donor assistance to furnish and equip these structures with a reasonable level of administrative, academic and research amenities.

Outcome

Through its constituent campuses, PU is offering Bachelors’ programs in Business Administration, Computer Applications, Information Technology, Elex Engineering ,Computer Engineering & MBBS (upcoming) . These campuses also conduct Masters’ programs in Business Administration and Computer Applications as well as in Population & Gender Studies.

The affiliated campuses offer Bachelors’/Master’s programs in Architecture Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics and Communication, Agriculture, Bio-Chemistry, Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Life Science, Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery, Nursing, Public Health, Commerce Studies, Travel and Tourism Study, Hotel Management, Arts, Law , Sociology, Journalism and Mass Communication, Media technology, Rural Development, Fashion and Technology, Sociology and Special English, Education.
